blogblossoms first posting -- and a question for you!

Welcome to blogblossoms! I hope you will visit us often!

I am an ESL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) instructor, and also coordinate "Dialogue Cafe" -- Dialogue Cafe provides a space and time for ESL learners and native English speakers to gather and talk!

And now blogblossoms is a place we can "talk" between Dialogue Cafe times!

I am new to blogging. Are you?

Letter of the Week!

This week blogblossoms encourages you to submit at least one word for blog responses -- and this week that word should start with the letter "H"

For those of you who are learners in the ESL Advanced Conversation Class, you are familiar with this activity. For those visiting us for the first time, we often "brainstorm" a letter (this time "H") and have everyone add at least one word that begins with that letter to our list. Then, we break into small groups and "talk" that letter. Conversations become quite diverse, and it is often amazing how much dialogue one little word can generate!

I submit these "H" words and encourage you to post comments and thoughts.

What do these words make YOU think about? Practice your English skills by posting a comment to this blogblossoms shared journal!

Assignment Reminder!

Hello, class!

A reminder for you: The following assignment is due by Monday, February 23, 2004

Should “homework” be given to all adult learners in Charlottesville City Schools Adult Learning Center ESL classes? If your answer is “no,” why not? If your answer is “yes,” why? How often? Would you like any written work that YOU give a teacher to always be corrected for spelling and grammar and returned to you?

The assignment was for you to call my cell phone and leave a message, remembering to try to speak clearly, but as “naturally” as you can (remember, try to answer in complete sentences!).

It might also be fun for you to post your comments here at blogblossoms for others in the class (and any visitors from the blogging world) to view as well.

Welcome to Dialogue Cafe BlogBlossoms!

Hello all!

I hope you will visit this site often! Please answer ONE or more of the questions below (and please be honest with your responses!):

Define Dialogue Cafe in your own words (as if you were explaining it to a stranger).

What has been the most useful conversation you have heard in Dialogue Cafe?

What is your favorite Dialogue Cafe memory?

What do you think might make Dialogue Cafe a better experience for you?

Do you think Dialogue Cafe is a welcoming place for English language learners of all levels? beginners? Intermediate level learners? Advanced conversation level learners?
(why or why not?)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
